Social Services within the Greater Jewish Community

BERGEN READS, a program of the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey (JFNNJ) combats illiteracy in Bergen County by training Reading Buddies to work one on one with students in grades K-4. In eight Teaneck and Hackensack public schools our Reading Buddies serve as tutors, advocates, friends and mentors, meeting individually students one half hour per week, every week from November through June.  Bergen Reads is in its eleventh year, and we are currently working with over 300 students.

Inviting book centerpieces are available for rent from the Bergen Reads Literacy Program to decorate party tables at your next simcha. All book centerpieces can be customized for your party. Bimah baskets are also available. Proceeds from these beautiful centerpieces and baskets go to support Bergen Reads, and personalized, decorative bookmarks are attached to each centerpiece explaining the act of tzedakah in honor of your celebration.   Your support through Book Centerpieces for Tzedakah will ensure the continued success of Bergen Reads.
